Offshore wind energy is a renewable energy source of exceptional quality. However, it is completely untapped today. To unlock this untapped potential, FARWIND ENERGY is developing turnkey solutions based on the sailboat-hydro-powered technology (FARWINDERs). This FARWINDER consists of a vessel propelled by the wind thanks to modern sails (Flettner rotors). Underneath the ship are installed hydro-generators. The current-speed is thus transformed into electricity by the hydro-generator. Depending on the intended use, this electricity is either stored on batteries or transformed into hydrogen or renewable fuel. The aim of the project is to bring the technology to TRL 6 with a view to the manufacture and launch of a demonstrator (2024).
