The thickness reduction in fuel-cell cores allows a lower operating temperature (700°C/1292°F) than in conventional systems (1000°C/1832°F). The ELECTOLYTE project deals with the manufacturing of solid oxide fuel-cell (SOFC) cores using new plasma and laser processes in order to obtain thin electrolyte and an electrode-electrolyte assembly thickness close to 10µm. The fuel-cell eventually obtained by the project may find applications as auxiliary or safety stationery power supplies in residential and commercial buildings.
