Currently, the design, manufacturing, qualification and use of composite tanks for the storage of compressed-gas (in particular hydrogen at 700bars) suffer from a lack of know-how yielding to major consequences on these systems in terms of safety, reliability, performances, cost and therefore their short and long term social acceptance. The ENDEMAT project aims at studying the specific damage mechanisms and processes on the different parts of the tank and to assess their life expectancy in normal usage condition (without accident). The overall goal is to provide a feedback to the technologies and tools dedicated to the design, characterization and qualification of the tanks.
