The ULHYS project is part of the French strategy for the development of the hydrogen sector. It aims to contribute to the optimization of the processes used in the manufacture of type IV storage tanks (two-layer with composite and polymer). The project aims to control the various stages of the rotomoulding process, manufacturing the liner of this tank, made of polyethylene. The project is based on two complementary approaches: an ultrasonic method to monitor in situ in real time the evolution of the viscosity of the polymer during a rotomoulding cycle, and the simulation of the process during implementation. The results obtained will constitute technological bricks for the optimization of type IV tanks, and for the development of type V (single-ply) tanks. The rotomoulding process will be perfected to the benefit of companies in the sector. The tools developed can be adapted to all polymer transformation processes.
