IMPERIAL

In progress

The aim of the IMPERIAL Project is to develop an innovative power converter that is able to perform power transmission, monitoring, diagnosis and communications by using a complete modular approach. For modern airplanes, a decentralized distribution network will be selected by implementing primary and secondary distribution centers (instead of a centralized approach in conventional airplanes), dividing the planes in several zones, interconnected and remote-controllable via a data-bus, reducing the length and weight of overall cabling. To reach this goal, the decentralized power system will be designed around advanced digital control systems, thermal management, and evolutive structures for innovative HVDC converters. The system will be highly efficient, reliable, compact, and light, hence contributing towards higher performances, more efficient and greener future large passenger aircraft.
