Activities / R & D subjects

In keeping with its mission, the S2E2 Cluster has identified the competences and the interests of all its partners, industrialists and research centres.

The purpose of this approach is to work out a matrix of the competences of S2E2’s members and to create groups of interests on R&D subjects which permit:

sharing expertise

sharing efforts of innovation, of R & D and of industrialisation,

instigating the creation of new products, new industrial fields and new collaborative platforms which will reinforce employment in the Centre region and abroad.

The main objective of our action is to instigate and support collaborative R & D Projects with public financing from local communities, the Government or from the European Union. Ultimately, this approach will reinforce the qualification level of the companies and improve their competitiveness.

R & D subjects retained to date

The R & D subjects of the S2E2 Cluster are in perfect symbiosis with the topics of the Grenelle of the environment and mainly with that entitled « to fight against the climate change and to control energy consumption ».

The Grenelle of the environment proposes to undertake an ambitious plan of energy renovation in existing buildings in order to reduce the energy consumption but also to launch a program of ground breaking technology in new buildings. This aims to generalise the construction of positive energy or low consumption new buildings. The necessary amplification of R & D efforts to prepare for the future energy, first on electricity storage and intelligent networks should also be mentioned.

Five R & D subjects for energy management:

Wind, Photovoltaic, geothermic: conversion and monitoring Aero generators and revolving machines for the optimisation of the wind power equipment, solar photovoltaic intelligent panels, optimised solar cells, autonomous road traffic sign systems. Electricity and hydrogen: conversion and storage High power fuel cells for domestic applications and micro fuel cells for nomadic applications (mobile phone, microcomputer…), batteries and micro batteries, storage units and energy management for a micro cell from µW to kW. Devices, packaging, connectors and systems Collaborative platform at Tours (in the Loire Valley in France), bearing on electrical connections and including devices, cards and connectors. Technologies of communication in the building Transmission systems by power-line communications, intelligent presence sensors, ambient energy sensors, communicative switches, active and passive filtering devices; software supervision and optimisation of the systems; collaborative platform in Orleans (in the Loire Valley in France), bearing on delocalised energy management and the energy efficiency optimisation. Technologies of lighting and road sign systems Optimised systems of urban and architectural lighting with centralised supervision.

The R & D meetings

For each of the R & D subjects, a group of industrialists and research centres with common interests has been identified. Thus, since the summer of 2007, R & D meetings are organised at regular intervals.

Like the R & D subjects, the groups can evolve according to the needs and interests for each one.

The R & D meetings are organised by the Technological coordination of the S2E2 Cluster. They promote the dialogue between industrial partners and research centres and they allow the creation of a dynamo of R & D projects by supporting the emergence of collaborative projects. Each working group generally includes an industry leader of their choice.
